Abstract

Leptin is a hormone secreted by adipocytes, stomach and placenta. Age, sex, puberty onset and food intake are the most important physiological factors that determines leptin concentration. It has been shown that leptin secretion is regulated by other hormones such as insulin, glucocorticoids and sex steroids. Leptin has an important role in hungry and satiety regulation as well as in normal sexual maturation. There has been some studies in obese subjects showing promisories results with leptin administration.
