Patient Safety in Pediatrics

Abstract

Pediatric patients can be at higher risk for safety events due to the variability in sizes and developmental stages across the wide range of patients and often depending on a caregiver to communicate for them. Therefore, special considerations need to be made and careful attention needs to be paid when caring for this vulnerable population. This chapter highlights some of the key issues that are seen when caring for pediatric populations, provide discrete examples that highlight these issues and gives recommendations about how to address these in a clinical setting.
