Abstract

Excessive sun exposure can also cause skin problems ranging from redness, inflammation and can trigger the appearance of skin cancer. One way to protect the skin from the sun is by using a sunscreen. Ceremai leaves (Phyllanthus acidus L.) contain flavonoids and tannins which can be used as sunscreen. The purpose of this study was to determine the potential of sunscreen from cream preparations of ethanol extract of ceremai leaves (Phyllanthus acidus L.) by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. The sunscreen potential is determined based on the method of calculating the percent value of erythema transmission (%Te), percent pigmentation transmission (%Tp) and SPF value. The potential sunscreen of cream based on %Te at a concentration of 250 ppm and 300 ppm it is included in the regular suntan category. The SPF value of ceremai leaf ethanol extract at a concentration of 100 ppm was included in the category of minimal protection (SPF 2.597), concentration of 150 ppm category of minimal protection (SPF 3.624), concentration of 200 ppm category of moderate protection (SPF 5.129), a concentration of 250 ppm category of extra protection (SPF 7.201), and concentration of 300 ppm is included in the maximum protection category (SPF 10.225)
