Abstract

What is the sociology of music? And does one sociology of one music exist? The paper deals with the ways to construct a sociological approach of music but also the personal and scientific relation to music of four French sociologists (J.-L. Fabiani, A. Hennion, P.-M. Menger et E. Pedler) who have marked the discipline and who have contributed to this special issue of the review about sociology of music. To understand which are the main themes and problematics requieres before to question the indiscernability of music and to relate the beginnings of the sociology of music in France. In return, it sheds light on how music and sociology of music question musicology and sociology in general.
