Abstract

As usual, this year's ADA Scientific Sessions covered a huge range of scientific and clinical material. In a necessarily highly selective report, we have highlighted presentations on the latest work in the following areas: islet cell transplantation; the natural history of Charcot arthropathy; new insulin developments; beta cell function and the meglitinides; the battle between the glitazones; problems of patient compliance, knowledge and inadequate treatment; and the possible role of a healthy lifestyle in preventing type 2 diabetes.
