Abstract

New data on diffusion in solids are obtained. Fick's law is a particular case of a more general law. A proposal is regarding the influence of anharmonism on the diffusion coefficient. Explanations are offered for the Kirkendall effect, the Ludwig-Soret effect, negative diffusion, etc. Some rules determining the fundamental properties of diffusion in are formulated. The diffusional-dilatometric effect in crystalline solids is established. ??2000 by Allerton Press, Inc.
