Abstract

This study proposes parameters for the design of elastomeric insulators (LRB) according to the seismic response of an essential building that has seismic isolation devices at its base. The structure analysis is carried out according to the criteria and specifications of two South American standards for seismic isolation and the North American standard. As a preliminary model, the structural modeling of the building with a fixed base is performed, the results are obtained according to the dynamic spectral modal analysis and the time history analysis with three severe seismic registers. Then, the LRB insulators are designed and the models are made with an isolated base under the parameters and criteria of the international standards analysis. Based on these models, a general proposal is made of the design parameters of the LRB insulators for countries that are in a highly seismic zone and do not have a standard for their design. Finally, the comparison of cutting forces, displacements and drifts is made; through which it will be possible to discuss whether the proposed parameters are conservative based on the structural performance of the building.
