Abstract

The Elderly will experience health problems due to decreased strength and endurance. The health problem that often occurs in the elderly is hypertension. Hypertension is called the silent killer because it often does not cause symptoms. This study aims to analyze the difference in blood pressure before and after being given foot massages in patients with hypertension. This type of research is pre-experimental using a one-group pre-posttest design without control, involving 25 elderly people selected by a simple random sampling technique. The independent variable is a foot massage and the dependent variable is blood pressure. Collecting data by observing blood pressure using an observation sheet. Analysis of the data using the dependent t-test. The results showed that blood pressure decreased when compared to before being given a foot massage with a significance value of p: 0.000 (p <0.05). Foot massage can be used as an alternative action to control the increase in blood pressure and is recommended to be done routinely as one of the nursing interventions for people with hypertension, especially the elderly.
