Abstract
Discusses the national programs available for providing information and assistance for cultural landscapes, which are comprised of geographic areas including both cultural and natural resources. Recently, the National Register of Historic Places has been working to better educate preservationists about the importance of the entire landscape when making a nomination. A number of bulletins have been published that provide instruction on how to evaluate and nominate areas such as landscapes, battlefields, cemeteries, rural historic landscapes, and mining properties. As landscape preservation develops, there is an ongoing challenge to describe these areas, and the application of terminology becomes increasingly important.
