Abstract

Several decades ago Markowitz was the first to report the existence of fluctuations in the motion of the Earth’s axis with a period of about twenty-four years. This empirical term was often considered not real but only an artifact due to local effects. In this paper long-term variations and the relationship between the 30-yr Markowitz wobble and changes in the Earth’s rotational speed are briefly discussed.
