Abstract

Der Beitrag der Zeitschrift „Gruppe. Interaktion. This article of the journal “Gruppe. Interaktion. Organisation (GIO)” analyses the current sense and subject orientation in management as a historical consequence of failed attempts at control and reconstructs a line of continuity of the increasing abandonment of organizational behavioral expectations and action imperatives. The archaeology of management theory reveals a change in the managerial understanding of control and reveals that the history of management is accompanied by rationality critiques of the organization, which is renewed in the context of agile methods such as design thinking, scrum or holacracy. As a reaction to this, a fundamental change of direction in management takes place through the emphasis on meaning and self-organization in concepts such as New Work, Purpose or Humanocracy. Static as well as dynamic principles of order are replaced by the meaning- and will-creating potential of the subject to ensure the agility of the organization. At the same time, this raises the question of whether the history of management theory in the mode of cultivating individual identities is making a new start or has reached its logical end.
