Abstract

The growth of local cattle shows the positive growth and it followed by increasing of local beef production. On the other side, the high of beef demand which cannot be met by local beef production causes an increase volume of beef import each year. Based on these problem, Indonesia seeks to increase local beef production by empowering domestic farmers through cattle and beef import policies. This study aims to analyze the impact of cattle and beef import on population of local cattle in Indonesia. This study utilized time series data during the period 1990-2017, by using simultaneous equations model (2SLS). The result of this study, decreasing of feeder cattle and beef import policies reduce the population of local cattle in Indonesia. On the other hand, increasing of breeding cattle escalate population of local cattle in Indonesia.
