Abstract

After giving an introduction and brief history, the paper gives a brief summary of lightning observations. Some of he points briefly discussed in the paper are: cloud electrification; lightning initiation; electronacoustic waves; intermittent recharging; the electrode step, return strokes; column expansion and thunder; continuing currents; terrestrial charge balance; ball lightning; and lightning protection.
