Abstract
Background: Neurology residents are faced with situations occasionally associated with job burnout, emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a lower sense of efficacy in their academic and work functions. The purpose of this research has been to describe the prevalence and associated factors of Burnout syndrome in Neurology residents in Colombia. Materials and methods: Through a self-administered survey, information was obtained from 134 neurology residents in Colombia. Data corresponding to sociodemographic variables and those included in the Maslasch Burnout inventory scale were included. Results: Among the residents evaluated, the female gender predominated (55.2%), with an average age of 29.77 years SD ± 3.172. Most of the residents belong to private programs of which the Simón Bolívar University represents the highest percentage. In general terms, the residents interviewed have low emotional exhaustion, an intermediate-low level of depersonalization, and a high level of personal satisfaction. Discussion: When analyzing the results, it was determined that the residents reported significant le-vels of depersonalization and emotional exhaustion, which may indicate the onset of burnout. This is perhaps associated with the demanding academic environment and inappropriate workload of the residents. Conclusion: It is concluded that residents have a low burnout rate and a low probability of deperso-nalization.
