Abstract

SONET was first introduced into the public network by a few small groups of experts at various carriers. Today, the deployment of the technology has grown to a point where field technicians encounter the technology during their daily routines. Thus, it has become critical for these technicians and their supervisors to have a working knowledge of key SONET test technologies and procedures. In order to obtain such working knowledge, carriers must provide their technicians with basic SONET training and simple, inexpensive test tools that can grow with their expanding knowledge and capabilities.
