Empathy as a factor in the development of personal components of future rescuers’ professional self-realization

Abstract

The article theoretically substantiates and empirically defines the interrelation between empathy and characteristics of future rescuers’ professional self-re-alization. The purpose of the article is a theoretical and empirical research of empathy as a factor in the development of characteristics of the professional self-realization of future rescuers. Research meth-ods. The authors used the following psychodiagnostic tools to conduct an empirical research: “Diagnostics of the level of empathic abilities” by V. Boyko, “S. Ritchie & P. Martin motivational profile test”; “Determination of personal life goals and values” by P. Ivanov, E. Kolo-bova; “A.M. Schubert risk propensity test”; “SACS” by S. Hobfoll (adapted by N. Vodopianova and O. Starch-enkova); “Forecast” (neuropsychic instability assess-ment). Grade point average (GPA) for majorities was used as an additional variable. Correlation analysis was applied. Results. Based on the empirical research, it was found that the respondents who are about to risk perform assertive and careful actions, demon-strate high rates of empathy, need high financial sup-port, strive for development and recognition from others, and are able to set complex tasks and complete them. The respondents also seek high tangible secu-rity, power, health, personal growth, and love. Correlation analysis showed that empathy has interrelations with such parameters as safety and security, service to people, personal growth, satisfaction, risk propen-sity, assertive actions, social contact, impulsive actions, aggressive actions, a favorable prognosis of neuropsy-chiatric stability, and the need to form stable relation-ships (GPA is 5.0-4.1 and 4.0-3.1). Conclusions. It is generalized that under correlation analysis, empathy has strong interrelations with almost all personal components of the professional self-realization of future rescuers.
