Abstract

The text approaches the changes in the urban design of Feira de Santana, Bahia, between the 1960s and 2018, aiming at the transformations occurring in the city, particularly in its avenues, in this period, facing urban growth and a modernization proposal. Based on a bibliographical review of authors describing the urban design changes in that city-each with a different focus on their research-and from the analysis of images such as maps and photographs, the article reveals the transformations of the urban landscape due the implantation and redesign of the avenus and their reflections in the idealization of modernization created for the city. The unveiling of the design of the first avenues of local importance, such as Getulio Vargas and Senhor dos Passos, and the arising and transformations of others, such as Nóide Cerqueira avenue, will be demonstrated, in order to discuss the city that reconnects by these urban landmarks, metamorphosing and remodeling.
