Abstract

The beginning of Nueva Granada printing ranges from the first printed testimonies we found from 1738 up to 1782 when the Royal Press (la Imprenta Real) starts with a continuing production. It is a fundamental time in the history of Colombian printing to understand the subsequent time that followed. Movable types, typesetters and correctors had a decisive role as cultural mediators and producers of printed texts as books and newspapers which replaced the value of writing with reading. Personages, concrete printed products and material technical instrumentation were present in the foundation of a new communicative writing system.
