Abstract

Worldwide construction companies are suffering from the lack of getting skilled and experienced workers for the production of lining segments for TBM-driven tunnels. For many years the focus was on how to reduce manufacturing costs, but now its solely about getting required staff. As this was getting more and more important, Herrenknecht decided to invest in automation systems for the segment production. Such systems are now in place and proving that a significant reduction of labour is possible without reducing output and quality requirements.
