Abstract

The pantun at Lok Baintan Floating Market is an oral tradition practiced by acil-acil (female traders) in Banjarmasin as a means of communication in trading activities. This study aims to reveal pantun as a living and evolving oral tradition among acil-acil, serving as a cultural identity of local heritage preservation and its contribution to driving the village economy. The research employs a qualitative method with data collection techniques including interviews, participatory observation through direct engagement with acil-acil, and documentation. Data analysis is conducted using a qualitative approach to uncover the meaning, functions, and sustainability of the pantun tradition within the socio-economic context of the local community. The findings indicate that pantun functions not only as a communication tool in trading but also as a medium for cultural preservation and social relationship building between traders and buyers. This tradition adds value to the local identity and serves as an economic attraction, supporting the continuity of the floating market as a village economic hub and attracting tourists as a cultural heritage destination. The oral tradition provides a unique experience for visitors who wish to witness trading interactions conducted on boats infused with local cultural elements. The presence of tourists contributes to the village economy, positioning pantun as a cultural tourism attraction that preserves cultural identity while strengthening the Lok Baintan Floating Market's status as an iconic tourist destination in South Kalimantan.
