Abstract
Objective: to investigate the influence of low-power laser therapy on pain, lumbar spine flexibility and handgrip muscle strength in women with fibromyalgia. Method: this study is a clinical trial of a qualitative and quantitative nature developed in the city of Rio Verde, Goiás. Initially 30 women with fibromyalgia were previously selected for the study with laser treatment, however only 19 had all laser therapy sessions. In addition, these women answered a questionnaire with personal information, and were evaluated by the Visual Analog Pain Scale, Schober Test and Handgrip muscle strength test. Results: the amount of painful points (p=0.002) and the Visual Analog Pain Scale (p=0.03), reduced considerably after laser treatment, the muscle strength in the left (p=0.053) and right (p=0.041) increased after therapy. For the Schober flexibility test (p=0.075) there was not significant statistically change. Conclusion: laser therapy proved to be effective for the treatment of fibromyalgia, mainly with regard to pain. (English) [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
