Abstract

Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz), native to Latin America (Hillocks et al., 2002a), is growing in nearly 100 countries (all developing), including more than 30 African countries (Djilemo, 2007). Cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) is a widely grown tuber and staple food for millions of people in the tropics of Africa, Latin America and Asia. At the global level, in terms of annual production, it is the fifth most important food crop after maize, rice, wheat and potatoes (FAOSTAT, 2011).
