Abstract

Trimethylsilyl-substituted organometallic compounds, (CH2)3SiCHMR, have been demonstrated to be effective intermediates in the conversion of carbonyl compounds to the corresponding olefins, >C=CHR. These conversions, which involve the formation and decomposition of ⪫ SiCHRC(OM)< compounds, appear to be closely related to the classical methods of preparing olefins from reactions of phosphorus-substituted carbanions with aldehydes and ketones. © 1968, American Chemical Society.
