Abstract

C-reactive protein is an easily measured acute phase protein. It rises rapidly in association with inflammation and has been used as a marker of infection. It is widely used in many specialties and has a potential role in the critically ill where it has been used not only to help diagnose infection but also to monitor the response to treatment.
