DESIGN OF STEEL BEARING PLATES

Abstract

Limit is placed on the deflection of bearing plates, which is shown to be a function of the deformability of the supporting material. The equation for deflection of a fixed ended cantilever under uniform load is restated to express the required thickness of bearing plate as a function of the deflection at the edge of the plate.
