Abstract

The Galapagos Islands are recognized by the international scientific community as unique natural formations in the world and an important milestone in the history of biological sciences for being linked to the theory of evolution from its original formulation by Charles Darwin to the modern interpretation. They are a museum and laboratory of evolution as can be seen from the unparalleled record of research and scientific publications.
