Abstract

The systematic study of the structures of metal complexes with mono-and tetra-N-functionalized azamacrocycles carrying carboxylic groups in their side chains shows the importance of the cavity size of the macrocycle, of the nature and length of the side chain and of the ionic radius of the metal ion on the coordination geometry. Applications of such complexes as NMR-contrast agents or to label monoclonal antibodies for tumour diagnosis and therapy are also discussed. © 1993 IUPAC
