Abstract

The intermetallic compound Mg2Cu reacts with H2 at ∼300° to form MgH2 and MgCu2. Excess Mg in the alloy also reacts to form MgH2. In the latter case a pressure-composition isotherm exhibits two plateaus. The equilibrium dissociation pressure of H2 was measured as a function of temperature for both systems from which thermodynamic functions for the reactions concerned were calculated. © 1967, American Chemical Society.
