Abstract
In 1986 eight big forest fires took place in the centre of Portugal. Five of them occurred during the period between the 13th and the 22nd of July. Among several other factors, the climatic conditions in which the fires occurred, were very similar in seven analysed cases. It was observed that the percentage of the relative humidity descended to an inferior value as that of the maximum temperature when these big forest fires took place and that winds from the East were usually associated to the already mentioned situations. -from English summary
