Abstract
The report provides a mathematical model of the structure of strong winds which is valid for strong, steady winds with neutral atmospheric stability, over level terrain with no significant topographical irregularities, and of sufficient fetch of uniform roughness to ensure equilibrium flow. A comparison is made in a latter section between the wind speeds predicted by the model and those by the existing CP3 Code. A select bibliography lists texts which indicate changes necessary to the model presented in the Report for the effects of irregular topography and inhomogeneous terrain. Appendices give a summary of useful formulae; unpublished sources of wind data; notes on the use of experimental data in the formulation of the model; sensitivity of wind profiles to the values of empirical constants; theoretical justification of the parabolic shear stress profile; more details of the CP3 comparison, and the use of the Kolmogorov spectrum for practical structures.
