Abstract
The Eriocaulaceae occupy the swampy habitat in low herb savanna on sand, laterite, flagstone and rocky outcrops and in riverbeds. Although generally present from the Atlantic savanna to the Eastern hills, the specific diversity of Eriocaulaceae depends on substratum and altitude level. The restricted area of Eriocaulaceae taxa may render them suitable as indicators for phytosociological studies in these habitats.
