Abstract

CONTEXT AND CONTENT. Order Rodentia, suborder Sciurognathi, family Sciuridae, subfamily Sciurinae, tribe Marmotini, genus Marmota. Fourteen species of Marmota are recognized, 6 occur in North America (Wilson and Reeder 1993). Similarities in morphology, chromosomes, and behavior place M. caligata, M. olympus, and M. vancouverensis in the superspecies caligata group (Hoffmann et al. 1979; Howell 1915). Marmota olympus is monotypic.
