Forestry and Water Conservation in South Africa

Abstract

South Africa's external debt is a financial issue that has become a political football between anti-apartheid forces and the South African government. While South Africa's economic fundamentals do not preclude it from international credit, its political system and the sanctions that it has incurred have effectively put it beyond the touch of both official and commercial financial sources. Without resolving the apartheid problem South Africa will remain a country apart from the rest of Africa and the international community. The danger in the 1990s is that if change is too slow, the country will reach a post-apartheid period with an economy ruined by sanctions on the outside and disruption from within. -from Author
