Abstract

Mechanical alloying is a powder technique in which solid state reactions are caused to occur when materials are processed in a ball mill under an inert environment. It is a specialized manufacturing method which can be used to produce a wide range of materials with novel compositions and microstructures. This review provides a general consideration of the process, a survey of its applications and a critical assessment of the reaction mechanism.
