Abstract

The continuous or repeated adoption of postures during work constitutes a significant risk factor for the development of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Therefore, it is essential to assess working conditions, implement appropriate measures to mitigate their effects, and propose improvements in job roles. Individuals engaged in recycling are exposed to risk factors for developing MSDs, which can be quantified through ergonomic evaluation. This study aims to determine the ergonomic risks of developing MSDs and establish the necessary level of intervention. A descriptive longitudinal study was conducted with the participation of 30 female base recyclers, applying ergonomic evaluation over three working days. The Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method was initially used; in cases of high-risk levels, the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA), Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA), and NIOSH Lifting Equation were conducted. The results were analyzed using the ERGONIZA software. Participants ranged in age from 29 to 72 years, with work experience spanning 10 to 45 years, and working hours between 4 and 12 hours per week. A very high ergonomic risk was identified in all participants, with an urgent intervention level required for 28 of them. The findings are consistent with previous studies, underscoring the necessity for ergonomic and educational interventions. The study concludes that urgent action is required to address unacceptable cases, emphasizing the imperative need for changes in working conditions.
