Abstract

Background: Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) with cannulation of the femoral vein and artery is a reasonable rescue therapy for selected patients with cardiac arrest. Intra-aortic balloon pump (IABP) is the most widely used form of mechanical hemodynamic support for cardiogenic shock. The clinical impact of IABP combined with ECMO for the cardiogenic shock patients is still unclear. We investigated whether IABP combined with ECMO was effective for reducing mortality of cardiogenic shock patients after cardiac arrest.
