Interstitial waters in marine and lacustrine sediments: A review

Abstract

The literature on the analysis, composition, and migration characteristics of interstitial waters in marine sediments is reviewed. Analytical problems arising from the shipboard handling of sediment cores and the conditions of storage and squeezing of the cores are shown to be of the greatest importance in interpretation of the results. The recent upsurge in the literature on interstitial waters reflects recognition of their importance in the study of diagenetic phenomena and the formation of authigenic minerals. © 1973 Taylor & Francis Group, LLC.
