Thrills on grindr: Technologies, emotions and subjectivities in Sudor, by alberto fuguet

Abstract

This paper proposes an analysis of the novel Sudor (2016), by the Chilean writer Alberto Fuguet, paying attention to the dialogue that it is established between his narrative strategies, which include the insertion of textovisual captures, and the new affective models that determine relationships in the era of advanced capitalism. The sociology of emotions and digital humanities serve as theoretical support to explore the reinvention of the rhetorical keys of Fuguet’s poetics according to the configuration of new subjectivities in the 21st century. To this extent, the latest affect theories are applied within the digital culture and of “liquid love” (Bauman) in order to demonstrate that the rhythms of the present are manifested both in the construction of narrative discourse itself and in the new affective speeds that define the relationships between the characters. Thus, it is concluded that the use of technology, as a thematic and formal resource, operates in Sudor as a critical tool to question the changes that the digital paradigm has generated in the subjectivities development.
