Abstract

Since Tokyo 2020 can’t really brag about t ackl i ng envi r onment al i ssues, sustainability, cost cutting, or transparency, by defaul t di versi ty and i ncl usi veness have become the branding agenda. This could be a positive legacy, but can the Olympics serve as a catalyst for Japan to reinvent itself? Probably n o t, d u e t o t h e p a t r i a r c h a l e l i t e ’ s ethnonationalism and aversion to diversity and inclusion.
