Percepção dos ribeirinhos sobre a erosão marginal e a retirada da mata ciliar do rio São Francisco no seu baixo curso

Abstract

The objective of this work was to understand the perception of the riverine population, especially fishers, on the environmental degradation in the lower São Francisco river focused on the riparian vegetation deforestation and bank erosion. In order to obtain the information 260 fishers were interviewed, by semi-structured interview techniques. According to the fishers have been occurred changes in the hydrological regime leading to the increase of riverbank erosion, mainly in the last decades. These changes are mostly related to the development public policies which support the construction of electric power dams in the river channel to generate energy potentializing the environmental problems and directly affecting the riverine's population.
