Abstract
This review takes a critical look at several works devoted to the "inter-world" of circulation, exchange and reappropriation. The works concerned focus on the Atlantic and on very specific areas that by no means exhaust the multiple forms of circulation. Yet they all contribute, each in its own field, to reconstructing the morphology and workings of this area between, above and this side of nation-states. A number of lessons can be gleaned from their comparative reading for anyone interested in this trans-national area that chaotically achieved its autonomy in the 20th century. While not with its risks, it is an approach that can help historicise the phenomena enveloped in the term "globalisation" '.
