Abstract

The effect of solid particles on the performance of oscillating flow heat pipe (O-HP) has been investigated using a loop O-HP plate. The O-HP plate was made of Al plate with 2×2 mm chase. Al2O3 nano-particles (30 nm diameter) were added into working fluid. Heat transfer performance of the O-HP was tested under mass concentration of 0α3.0 wt% for Al2O3 nano-fluid at volume filling ratio of 50 %. Experimental results show that the nano-fluid tends to slightly enhance the heat transfer performance of the O-HP in high heat load condition. However, the heat transfer performance decreased as the nano-particles settled out after repeating the test. © 2013 The Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers.
