Abstract
The value of heparin and dicoumarol is briefly appraised, and the difficulties of calculating accurate dosage are mentioned. Three methods of determining blood coagulability are described. The role of the lipoid factor in blood clotting is discussed from this standpoint. An account is given of experimental work showing the effect on the coagulability of the blood of lipaemia and haemolysis, and important points of technique in tests of blood coagulability are emphasized. © 1949, British Medical Journal Publishing Group.
