Waiting for disaster: Earthquake watch in California

Abstract

The research proposal for this investigation was developed jointly by the authors and Barbara Shaw, who remained a full coinvestigator until the project's third year. Her contributions were extensive. Two research associates, K. Jill Kiecolt and Gerald Goetsch, joined us early to service our computer needs and advise on statistical matters. They participated actively in our weekly research conferences and contributed many unacknowledged ideas to the final report. James Goltz took charge of the newspaper analysis halfway through the project and likewise became a major participant and contributor.
