Abstract

Although the B-splines are considered as the most efficient curve representations and posses attractive properties, very little work has been devoted to them due to the fact that B-spline curve is not uniquely described by a single set of parameters which makes the curve matching difficult. This study is an attempt to find matching solutions despite this limitation, and as such it deals of using B-splines for shape recognition and indentification from curves. Emphasis is directed on the following applications; affine invariant matching and classification of 2-D curves with applications in identification of aircraft types based on image silhouttes and writer-identification based on handwritten text.
