Abstract

Nutrition affects the immune system and immune functions. Malnutrition, lack of proteins, of vitamins are still common in most developing countries with septicemias, malignancies, early deaths as too common consequences. Trace elements (e.g. zinc, copper, iron, selenium, magnesium) are involved. Changes in lipid (oils) availability have profound effects on immune functions and inflammation. Fermented products, e.g. yogurt, sauerkraut, pickles, wine, etc., may play a major role as immunomodulators. But nutrition without pleasure may be more than a crime, a mistake.
