Abstract
Nanosensors are gaining increasing attention due to the need to detect and measure chemical and physical properties in difficult to reach biological and industrial systems that are in the nano-scale region. This conceptual review surveys various nanosensors, which are categorized into three broad types: optical, electromagnetic and mechanical nanosensors. The sensing concepts and their corresponding advantages are discussed with reference to their applications. © 2006 Verlag der Zeitschrift für Naturforschung.
