Abstract

Sudden oak death is a new threat to British trees. This article considers the impact the disease may have on Britain's tree populations and landscapes. It describes the characteristics of the disease, looks at its rapid spread in the USA and outlines the initial outbreaks in Britain. The article will be of interest to those studying biogeography or interested in rural issues.
