Abstract

Wastewater of bottled tea industry is one of the wastewater that have high organic load. Wastewater treatment plan as activated sludge systems where are now applied in many industries is not recommended because that systems is Low Rate category less fit again to treat wastewater containing high organic contaminants and dissolved complex. Up-flow Anaerobic Sludge Blanket (UASB) system is one of the anaerobic process with high efficiency that can reduced at high organic load. Because the UASB process as initial treatment and thus to be followed by the wetland as an further treatment can reduce of organic contamination. Thia research used the wastewater of the tea bottles industry in Central Java. Anaerobic microbial sources are used for seeding UASB reactor (2 parallel units) derived from anaerobic sludge of tofu industry. Residence time of the UASB reactor designed in total for 19 hours with a debit 2297 l / day. Advanced treatment of UASB reactor is done by processing wetland The results showed that UASB reactors I and II can reduce COD up 88.51% and the highest efficiency of processing with wetland 85.02%, Next wastewater treatment with a combination of UASB and wetlands can reduce COD between 97.65 to 98,90% and the effluent fullfill the effluent standard beverage industry according to the Central Java Province Regulation No. 5/2012, where the COD = 35.44 mg / l, TSS = 16 mg / l, and BOD5 = 13.44 mg / l.
