Abstract

This chapter analyses the air law applicable to UAS in Hungary, highlighting the integration of EU regulations with national laws. It outlines how Hungarian legislation has adapted existing laws to include UAS, with significant updates aligning with EU directives to streamline operations across member states. Notably, it discusses critical legal instruments like the Aviation Act of 1995 and its amendments, which incorporate detailed rules for UAS operations. The chapter further delves into the specific regulations governing autonomous drones, noting the absence of a unique definition within Hungarian law and reliance on EU definitions. It examines the complexities of autonomous flight operations under current regulations, emphasising the need for clarity in distinguishing between remotely piloted, automatic, and autonomous UAS. Overall, this chapter provides an overview of how Hungarian UAS legislation coexists with and is shaped by broader EU policies, suggesting a robust framework but also areas needing further legislative development.
